The waters off Manuel Antonio are worth the trip on their own. The Quepos coastline borders the marine zone of Manuel Antonio National Park, one of Costa Rica's most protected coastal ecosystems. Whale watching is seasonal. Southern Hemisphere humpbacks migrate north from Antarctic feeding grounds into the waters off Manuel Antonio from July through November. A second, smaller Northern Hemisphere population passes through December through March. This makes Manuel Antonio one of the few places in the world where you can see humpbacks in almost any month of the year. Book early for the peak July–November season.
